We have a modern site with excellent facilities. Our large comfortable air-conditioned sanctuary can be extended into the rear hall to accomodate the entire community for the High Holy Days. At other times the hall, with adjacent (non-meat) kitchen, is available for receptions, events, drama, dancing, and may be hired.
Our smaller hall and adjacent library also accommodates the ‘Leo Baeck Arts Centre’, which hosts several exhibitions annually. There is a small kitchenette, classrooms and offices, as well as a ‘Room of Prayer’ (our smaller sanctuary).
The buildings are well equipped with toilets and baby change facilities, and are fully accessible for wheelchair users.
We have a lovely central courtyard framed by garden – a special setting for a wedding or other significant event. Our courtyard barbecue is also used for community events.
In accordance with the Jewish principle of ‘Tikkun Olam’ (repairing the world), we try to be as environmentally responsible as possible, and purchase accredited renewably generated power. In June 2008 we installed 30,000 litres of water tanks to flush all toilets and to water our gardens, thanks to a Federal Government grant.
LBC is about 8 km northeast of the Melbourne Central Business District.
- BY CAR: We have a large car park behind our site (entrance at 31 Harp Road), and parking is also allowed in Harp Road until 8pm.
- BY TRAM: Tram routes 24 and 48 pass nearby at Harp Junction, a two minute walk up Harp Road.
- BY BUS: Buses stop outside our site: 201 from City – Lonsdale St to Doncaster Shopping Town, 202 from Box Hill, 302 from City – Queen St to Box Hill, and 624 from Oakleigh to Kew.
We have for hire a large hall with adjacent (non-meat) kitchen facilities, and a smaller hall with an adjacent kitchenette.
Our large central courtyard is equipped with a barbeque, and tables and chairs are available for use in this space.
There is ample car parking at the rear of the building and and ramp access throughout the site.
Hire rates are very reasonable.
